Who we are
We're SMC Digital Tech Ltd, a web development and AI tools company based in Scotland. Our company number is SC839714. If you need to get in touch about anything data-related, email us at [email protected].
What we collect
We keep things minimal. Here's what we collect and why:
- Contact form submissions - your name, email address, company name (optional), and your message. We collect this because you've sent it to us so we can get back to you.
- Basic analytics - page views, referring sites, browser type, and device info. We may use our own analytics tools or third-party services such as Google Analytics to collect this. We use analytics to understand how the site is used, not to build advertising profiles about you.
Why we collect it
- Contact form data - so we can reply to your enquiry and have a conversation about working together.
- Analytics data - so we can understand how our site is being used and make it better. This data is aggregated and we're not interested in identifying individuals.
Legal basis
Under UK GDPR, we need a lawful reason to process your data:
- Contact form - consent. You choose to send us your details, and we use them to respond. You can ask us to delete this data at any time.
- Analytics - legitimate interest. We have a genuine interest in understanding how our website is used. Where we use third-party analytics services, they may set cookies on your device. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal data. If we use third-party analytics (such as Google Analytics), anonymised usage data may be processed by that provider. Contact form submissions are processed on our own servers. We don't share your personal information with anyone else.
How long we keep it
- Contact form data - up to 12 months after your last enquiry, then deleted.
- Analytics data - stored in aggregate form. Individual page view records are not tied to identifiable individuals.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data - ask us what we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data - let us know if something's wrong and we'll fix it.
- Delete your data - ask us to erase your personal data.
- Restrict processing - ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Data portability - request your data in a portable format.
- Object to processing - tell us to stop processing your data where we rely on legitimate interest.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can contact them at ico.org.uk or call 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to sort things out first though - drop us an email and we'll do our best.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. We won't make any sneaky changes - if something significant changes, we'll make it clear.
